Akshey Tritiya

Baisakh ShuklaTritya (third day in the bright fortnight of the Hindu lunar month Baisakh is called Akshey Tritiya it is believed that Treta Yuga (an era in which Lord Shri Ram incarnated) commenced on this day. Jap (repetition of a hymn), Tap (austerities), knowledge and donation (charity), done on this day give multiplied results. It is considered more auspicious if this day falls on a Monday with Rohini Nakshatra (fourth planet). Nar-Narayan incarnated on this day. Lord Parshuram also incarnated on this day. Lord Parshuram is known as annihilator of corrupt and deceitful Kshatriyas (a cast) from the earth 27 times. It is believed that lord Vishnu  incarnated as Hayagreev on this day. The Badrinarayan temple opens for public on. this day. In Bankebihari temple situated at Vrindavan (U.P.), India feet of the idol are visible on this day otherwise all the time these are found under the cloths. This day is considered extremely auspicious to start anything. Diping in the Ganges on this day is of great importance. Lord Vishnu is invoked on this day by Purush Sukta Mantras (hymns from Vedas) offering milk . bath, Tulsi, and crystallized sugar or milkmaid sweets etc. to idol of Lord Vishnu. Aarti is performed in the end. In the morning rice, vegetables, Ghee (clarified butter), salt, sugar, fruit, barley,flour, clothes, etc. should be donated to a Brahmin with money. Consumption of barley flour and sugar is recommended.

Story

Once Yudhisthir asked Sri Krishn about the importance of this day, Lord Krishna described it an auspicious and utmost pious. It is called “Yugaadi Tritiya” also, because Treta Yuga commenced on this day. The invocation on this day is very fruitful, which is indestructible and everlasting. Lord Krishna narrated a story further. Once there was a poor, knowledgeable, religious Godly Brahmin, who came to know about the importance of this day through some great saint. In spite of the poverty, lack of co-operation from his spouse and having responsibilities of a big family he performed the-religious rites on this day every year, with the result in his rebirth, he became the King of Kushavati. He was praised by all. Devotee, who observes fast on Akshay Tritiya, is blessed with fulfillment of all his desires.
